3-4 lbs yams or sweet potatoes
5-6 quarts of water
2 1/2 to 3 cups white sugar
2-3 sticks butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups of orange juice
3/4 cups of Jack Daniels
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp nutmeg

Directions:
Wash sweet potatoes or yams. In pot add water bring to a boil. Add sweet potatoes or yams. Cover the pot and let cook for approximately 1 hour. Test the potatoes to see if they are done, should be soft but not mushy. When done remove potatoes and drain in a colander. Once cooled peel potatoes. Make sure to remove all skin and stringy matter. Slice potatoes into 1/2 inch slices. In a glass dish place potatoes. Add sugar, butter, and all remaining dry ingredients.

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Place yams into over uncovered let cook for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and add orange juice and jack Daniels. Increase oven temperature to 400 degrees. Baste potatoes and place back into over for approximately 15-20 minutes, until the potatoes are golden brown.

This in one of my favorites. For non-alcoholic dish omit Jack Daniels.
