2 1/2 c all purpose flour or cake flour
1 c granulate sugar
3.4 c packed brown sugar
1 t salt
1 t baking powder
1/4 t baking soda
3/4 t ground cloves
3/4 t ground cinnamon
3/4 c shortening
1 1/4 c buttermilk
3 eggs
1 c chopped walnuts
Carmel Frosting

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350. Grease and floour 2 round pans, 9X1 1/2 inches. Beat all ingreadients except walnuts and frosting on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl frequently. Stir in walnuts. Pour into pans. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely. Fill and frost with Caramel Frosting.

Caramel Frosting:
Melt 1/2 c margarine or butter in 2 qrt saucepan. Sitr in 1 c packed brown sugar. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir over low heat, 2 minutes. Stir in 1/4 c milk. Heat to boiling, remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm. Gradually stir in 2 c powdered sugar. Place saucepan in bowl of cold water, beat until smooth and spreading consistency.
