Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs. ham (I use leftover ham from a roast on the bone), or 2 ham hocks
1 pkg. 16 oz. northern beans or pinto beans
1 small onion (if desired)
1 Tbsp. baking soda
water or left over ham broth

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and drain beans.
Place ham, beans, onion into crockpot. Cover with water/broth about 1 1/2- 2 inches from top of crockpot. Add baking soda. If you are just using water and the ham isn't very salty add enough salt to taste. Stir and cover.
Cook on high for 6-8 hours or until beans are done. The longer you cook them, the beans will cook down and get thicker.
