3 cups of sifted cake flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups of sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
5 egg whites

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour once, measure and add baking powder and salt. Sift 3 times. Cream the butter and sugar. Cream until light, then add flour alternating with milk, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla, beat egg whites until they stand in peaks, fold in well.

Bake in 2 or 3 deep pans at 375º for 20 - 30 minutes.

Frost with your favorite topping!
