3 cups sifted flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat over to 450º F.

Measure and put in a large mixing bowl: 3 cups sifted flour, 3/4 tsp. salt, 1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. baking soda.

Add and cut in with a pastry blender: 1/2 cup shortening

Make a well and add: 1 1/2 cup buttermilk

Stir until all flour is moistened.

Turn dough onto a well floured surface.

Knead 10 to 12 times.

Roll to 3/4 inch thickness and cut out biscuits.

Placed on an ungreased baking sheet and brush the tops with melted margarine.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes, brushing once more with melted margarine halfway into cooking time.
