1/2 C Shortning
1 1/2 C Sugar
2 Eggs, well beaten
2 1/2 C Flour
1 tSalt
1 C Buttermilk
2 oz. Red Food Coloring
2 t Cocoa
1 t Soda
1 T Vinegar

Frosting
3 T Flour
1 C Milk
1 C Butter
1 C Sugar
1 t Vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortning and sugar, beat in eggs. Alternate flour and salt with buttermilk. Add red coloring, 2 t cocoa. Mix soda and vinegar, add last. Pour into 3 layer pans and bake at 350º for 30 minutes.

Frosting
Cook flour and milk together till thick, then cool
Cream Butter sugar and vanilla, add to cooked mixture. Spread on cake.
