2 C sugar
1 C shortening
2 eggs
2 1/2 C flour
2 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t salt
4 C cooking apples, pealed and chopped
1 cup nuts, chopped
Sauce:
1/2 C brown sugar, packed
1/2 C sugar
1/2 C margarine
1/2 C heavy cream
1/2 t vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt and add to mixture. Add apples and optional nuts. Pour into greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
For sauce, combine sugars, margarine, and cream in small saucepan. Heat mixture to a boil and add vanilla. Pour sauce over individual servings of cake; serve warm or cold.
