About 5 qts flour
About 2 cups water
About 1/2 cup shortening
About 2 yeast cakes
About 1 cup dry milk
About 3/4 cup sugar
About 2 Tb. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water and a little sugar and flour.
Be sure you do not scald yeast.
Raise to two times size. Shape in loaves. Raise again.
Bake 375º

Grandma Brown wrote this recipe down for Grandma Bodell in response to her request for a REAL recipe with exact amounts.
Pam remembers Grandma Brown always made scones with the left over dough in the shape of number 8.
