3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg

2 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening a a 3 or 4 qt. saucepan over low heat, cool completely. Add sugar, molasses, & egg--beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, & salt. Add to first mixture--mix well. Chill.

Form in 1 inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet two inches apart.

Bake at 375º for 8 - 10 minutes.

Connie states--These are the "BEST" cookies... and a must for all Christmas holidays. My Mom always had these in the house at Christmas. Only Mom could make them oh so good!

Brenda says--Whenever we would come into Mom's kitchen, all the kids would be searching the cupboards for these favorites, which were sometimes gone because Brent found them first!!!
