Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 large eggs
1/2 C. granulated sugar
2 C. milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 T. butter, melted
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 C. dried bread cubes
2 C. peeled, thinly sliced tart apples
Orange Sauce (recipe below)

Directions:
Directions:
To dry bread cubes, bake in a shallow pan in a preheated 275 degree oven, turning occasionally for about 10 minutes. In a medium bowl beat together until blended eggs, sugar, milk, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, 1 T. of butter and the vanilla. Add bread, mix well. Pour into a buttered 1-1/2 qt. casserole. Melt 1 T. butter and dip apple slices in butter and arrange on top. Set casserole dish in larger baking pan (fill baking pan with hot water about 3/4 full) and place in preheated 350 oven. Bake uncovered, about 1 hour or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with warm Orange Sauce.

Orange Sauce:
In a small saucepan, heat 1 C. milk until tiny bubbles appear around edge. In the top of a double boiler, whisk 2 egg yolks. Gradually whisk in the hot milk. Add 3 T. sugar and 1-1/2 tsp. orange rind. Stir constantly over simmering water until thickened, about 2 to 3 mins. Serve warm on top of bread pudding.
