This is Mom's recipe! Cut shortening into flour and salt. Add enough milk to beaten eggs to make 1 cup liquid. Mix with dry ingredients to make a dough. Roll out half of the dough and place on a cookie sheet. Lightly crush 1 c. corn flakes and sprinkle over the crust. Slice apples on top of crust (enough to cover).
Sprinkle cinnamon/sugar/nutmeg mixture over the apples. Dot with butter. Roll our second half of the crust and put over apples and split the top. Seal the edges. Beat egg whites until frothy (not stiff) and brush on top of crust until gone. Bake @ 375º for 50 min. Drizzle glaze on while bars are still warm.)
