3 Tbsp butter
3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
2 cups chopped onion
6 cups sliced, pared, and cored tart apples
2 cups sliced, pared, and cooked carrots
2/3 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheee
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp flour
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Remove 1 Tbsp and toss with bread crumbs. Put this aside. Add onions to remaining butter. Saute until tender. In a large bowl, toss onions with the apples and next 5 ingredients. Pile into a 1 and 1/2 qt. lightly greased and shallow baking dish. Cover with foil and bake in 350º oven for 55 minutes. Remove foil and sprinkle with reserved bread crumb mixture. Bake for 15 minutes more or until apples are tender.
