Ingredients: 2 C. brown sugar 1 C. melted shortening 2 eggs 1/4 C. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. baking soda flour

Directions: |
Directions:Beat melted shortening with brown sugar, add eggs and beat well. Add milk and vanilla. Mix 1 tsp. of baking soda with 1 cup of flour and stir into mixture. Keep adding flour until dough is stiff. Divide dough in half and wrap in plastic wrap and chill several hours. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface. Cut into rounds. Spoon filling on one round and top with another round. Pinch together. Bake cookies at 350 for 10 - 12 mins.
Filling: 1 C. raisins 1/3 C. sugar 1/3 C. water 1/8 tsp. salt 2 T. butter 2 T. flour 1 C. chopped nuts Combine butter and flour and cook over medium heat stirring constantly. Add remaining ingredients and stir and cook until slightly thickened. Cool before using. |

Notes: Okay, I definitely remember these from childhood, but never saw the recipe until now. As I remember, these cookies were soft, chewy and fabulous. It appears to be a really old recipe.
