Date Swirls Recipe

2 cups brown sugar
1 cup lard
pinch of salt
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cream of tartar
3 cups flour

1 lb dates
2 cups water
1 cup sugar
4 T corn starch

Work dough together. Chill. For filling dissolve corn starch in cold water; add the rest of the filling ingredients and cook until thick.
Divide dough into workable amounts. Roll dough on floured surface to about 1/4" thickness. Spread date filling on dough and roll. Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate over night or freeze until ready to bake. Cut cookies on a slant. Bake at 375 for about 10 minutes.
