1 c. sour cream
2 T. shortening
3 T. sugar
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 cake yeast compressed (or pack of dry yeast)
3 c. flour
2 T. soft margarine or butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375ºF. Bring sour cream to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in shortening, sugar, baking soda, and salt until blended. Cool until lukewarm. Add 1 egg unbeaten and 1 cake yeast compressed or dry yeast. Stir until yeast is dissolved and then mix in the flour with a spoon.

Turn out onto lightly floured board. Knead lightly a few seconds. Cover with damp cloth and let stand 5 minutes to tighten up and then roll dough 1/4 inch thick. Spread surface with soft margarine or butter. Spread half the dough the long way with mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon.

Bring unsugared half of dough over sugared half pressing top surface lightly to seal in filling. Cut dough in 1 inch strips taking each strip of dough at both ends and twisting it in opposite directions. Put on greased baking sheet. Let rise about 1 hour. Bake 12-15 minutes at 375ºF. Frost as desired.

This is a recipe from my grandmother, Doris Miles. Doris spent most of her life on the Miles farm in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin (aka Stonebank). Doris currently resides at the Shorehaven Assisted Living Facility where she is pampered by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Peter Borbiro.
