Pastry Layer:
1 1/4 c flour
1/3 c sugar
1/2 c butter softened

Top Layer:
1/3 c brown sugar
1/3 c white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup walnuts chopped
8 ozs chopped dates (1 box)
powdered sugar

Pastry Layer:
Combine and blend 1st three ingredients into fine crumbs. Press firmly into greased 9x9 pan. Bake 350º for 20 mins until edges are light brown
Top Layer. Combine sugars, eggs, and vanilla, mixing well. Combine flour and other dry ingredients.
Add to sugar/egg mixture. Add dates and walnuts. Pour over warm pastry layer. Bake 20 min. 350º
Cool in pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut when cool.
