1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening, melted
1/2 c. butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 T boiling water
1 c. nuts (pecans, walnuts- optional)
Dash of salt
4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Put sugar and brown sugar in large bowl. Add shortening and butter. Mix and add water. Add eggs and soda. Combine baking powder, salt and flour. Add to sugar egg mixture. Mix well and add nuts. Form into a roll on waxed paper. Wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate a least a couple of hours until firm before baking. Slice cookies from roll and bake 7-10 minutes at 375 degrees F. Dough may be store in refrigerator or freezer to slice and bake. Great dipped in milk or coffee.

My great grandmother, "Mimmie" Exo used to make these when we were young. They are still a favorite and great to have in the freezer for fresh baked cookies.
