Ingredients:
1 pkg. yeast
¼ c. warm water
1 c. scalded milk (cooled to lukewarm)
¼ c. sugar
¼ c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
3 ½ c. flour
1 large egg

Directions:
Directions:
Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening and salt. Add 1/1/2 c. flour. Beat well. Beat egg and add to yeast. Gradually add the rest of the flour to form soft dough (just past the sticky stage). Knead until smooth. Place in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface. Cover and let rise until double (1 ½ to 2 hours). Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and roll to ¼ to ½ inch thick. Spread with butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. Roll up dough and slice 1 inch thick and place in greased pan at least one inch apart. Let rise for 30 to 45 minutes. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Spread rolls with icing (powdered sugar, milk and vanilla) while slightly warm.

For caramel rolls; mix and add ½ c. melted butter, 1 c. cream and 2 c. brown sugar to 9x13 inch pan – place cut out rolls onto this mixture and rise before making until done.
