24 large strawberries, rinsed, dried
8 oz. bittersweet chocolate, broken into pieces
1 T. vegetable shortening

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Microwave chocolate pieces and shortening in medium, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH for 1 minute. Remove and stir until melted and smooth. (You may need a few seconds more in microwave if chocolate remains unmelted after stirring).
Hold strawberries by the stem or insert a wooden toothpick in the top. Dip into the melted chocolate. Let excess drip off, and then place on the parchment-lined sheet. Refrigerate until set.
