3/4 C Brown Sugar - firmly packed
1/2 C nuts - finely chopped - optional

Directions:
Grease a 9 X 9 inch pan and sprinkle the nuts in, if you are using them. Chopped pecans or almonds are the best. In a sauce pan, cook the sugar and butter. Stir while boiling for about 6 minutes until it gets thick and frothy. Pour the mixture over the nuts and let sit for 1 - 2 minutes. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top evenly and let sit until they melt. Then spread the chocolate over the toffee. Let cool a bit more and then cut into 1 inch squares.

Personal Notes:
The first couple of times you make this, be careful with the butter and sugar. If you start to smell a burnt odor, remove from the heat immediately and pour over the nuts. Get the mixture out of the sauce pan fast! I had to throw out my first batch, but then I knew when the toffee was cooked enough. This is really fast after you have made it a couple of times. I never make a double batch in one recipe. Make the first batch and then make another one. This always goes over great and makes a nice hostess gift at Christmas.
