1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup salad oil
1 cup pure cane syrup (I use Steen's)
1 cup boiling water
2 tsps. baking soda
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. powdered cloves
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350º

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, oil and syrup. Dissolve soda in boiling water, add it to the sugar & syrup mixture. Add ginger, cinnamon, cloves and flour. Beat until well blended. Add eggs & salt. Beat until thoroughly mixed. Pour into greased (9x13 inch) baking pan.

Bake at 350º for 35 or 40 mins. or until top springs back when touched.
