2/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup orange juice
2 tbsps. grated orange rind
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Icing
2 1/2 tbsp soft butter or oleo
1 1/2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. orange juice
2 tsp. grated orange rind

Directions:
Heat oven to 400º Mix shortening, sugar and egg throughly. Stir in orange juice and rind. In another bowl measure flour by dipping & leveling method. Add baking powder, baking soda and salt to flour - mix well - add this flour mixture to shortening mixture - blend in well.

Drop rounded tsps. of dough about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 mins. or until delicately browned on edges. Place on racks to cool. Frost with orange icing.

Icing
Blend butter & sugar together. Stir in orange juice and orange rind until smooth. If icing becomes too thick add orange juice a drop or so at a time.

This recipe makes a cake-like cookie.
