1 c. white sugar
1 c. whipping cream
1 c. white corn syrup

1 tsp. vanilla
4 TBSP butter

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 3 ingredients to soft ball stage using a candy thermometer, remove from heat and add vanilla and butter. Mix well and pour into buttered pan. Invert pan after complete cooling to foil or wax paper.

If making the chocolate variety, add 1/4 c of cocoa in the first step and use dark corn syrup! Tastes like tootsie rolls!

You may also want to experiment with the different stages of candy if you prefer your caramels softer or harder.
