6 egg whites (1 cup, room temperature)
2 cups sugar

1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
1 tsp. Cream of tartar

Frozen or fresh, sugared strawberries, or
raspberries, or
crushed pineapple (drained)
Fresh whipped cream or Cool Whip

Directions:
Directions:
Beat eggs whites until stiff; add sugar.

Add vanilla, vinegar, and Cream of Tartar to egg mixture.

Pour into an ungreased springform pan. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 275º for 50-60 minutes. Remove sides from pan immediately. When cooled, carefuly invert on a serving plate and top with fruit, then cover the entire torte (top and sides) with whipping cream. Refridgerate.

My great-grandparents owned the Waters Inn, in Waters, Michigan in the mid-1900's. This is her "famous" torte recipe that was always requested by guests at the Inn.
