1 cup shortening (part butter)
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
3 Tablespoons hot water
1 tsp. Vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 pkg chocolate chips
1 cup nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening & sugar. Add eggs and water and Vanilla. Beat it well. Sift flour, soda, and salt. Add to mixture. Add chocolate chips and mix thoroughly. Fold in chopped nuts.
350º for 5 min.

Our daughter, Collette Pace Richards, became an expert at making these cookies when she was a teenager. She says the secret is not to cook them too long so they stay moist and tender.
