1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 1/2 cups flour, sifted
2 cups nuts
1 lb. chopped dates
1 lb. candy orange slices, chopped
1 cup coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and butter; add beaten eggs.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk and add to creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Place flour and salt in large bowl, add dates, orange slices and nuts; coat with flour. Add coconut. Mix with all ingredients, pour into greased and floured pan 13x9x3 inches. Bake at 250º for 2 1/2 hrs.
Icing
Combine 1 cup orange juice and 2 cups powdered sugar. Pour over cake while hot.
