3 26 oz. bottles Burgundy wine
2/3 c. sugar
20 whole cloves
20 cardamon seeds, slightly crushed
11/2 tsp. ground ginger
5 cinnamon sticks, broken up
1 piece cheesecloth
21/2 c. brandy
additional cinnamon sticks

In a large saucepan, combine wine and sugar. Place next four ingredients in cheesecloth, tie with string to form a bag. Add to wine. Bring mixture just to a boil over low heat, stirring occasionally; simmer gently 15 minutes. Stir in Brandy. Heat until hot but not boiling. Remove cheesecloth bag. Pour into mugs. Add a cinnamon stick to each serving.
