2/3 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup applesauce
1 egg
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 cups raisins
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Boil raisins, sugar, shortening, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg in water. Cool and add remaining ingredients. Bake at 350º for 35 minutes in a 9 1/2 x 13 pan.
Caramel Icing
1 tbsp. crisco
1 tbsp. white syrup
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
Cook until soft ball stage; then add this mixture to:
1/3 cup crisco
4 tsp. hot milk
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
