"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Ingredients:
1 Cup Old Fashioned Oats (NOT the quick cooking kind)
4 Cups water

Optional:
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 Cup brown sugar

Directions:
Mix all ingredients in crockpot and cook on low for 4 hours, if you have a newer crock pot which has the heating elements in the sides as well as on the bottom. I have bought a timer for about $9 at Wal-Mart which will turn heat-producing applliances on and off for you. Set it to come on about 4 hrs. and 15 mins. before you get up. I add an extra 10-15 minutes for the pot to heat up. Put the pot on 'Keep Warm' when you get up, if desired, til all the family has gotten their hot oatmeal and dressed it with cream, butter or whatever they please to use. YUM!

If you have an older crock pot with the heating element on the bottom only, cook for 8-10 hrs. on low.
