IN 1/2 CUP BOILING WATER.
CREAM:
2 CUPS SUGAR
1 CUP BUTTER
ADD:
4 EGG YOLK (SAVE EGG WHITES)
ADD ONE AT A TIME AND MIX WELL
MIX:
1 TEASPOON BAKING SODA
2 1/2 CUP FLOUR
1/2 TEASPOON SALT
ADD ALTERNATELY WITH
1 CUP BUTTERMILK
1 TEASPOON VANILLA
MIX WELL
ADD 4 EGG WHITES BEATEN STIFF.

BAKE IN 3 - 9 INCH PANS CREASED AND FLOURED.
BAKE AT 350º - 35 MIN.

GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE TOPPING

1 CUP SUGAR
1 CUP EVAPORATED MILK
3 EGG YOLKS
1/2 CUP BUTTER

HEAT AND COOK UNTIL THICK ABOUT 12 MIN.
ADD:
1 1/3 CUPS SHREDDED COCONUT
1 CUP CHOPPED PECANS.
BEAT UNTIL THICK AND SPREAD ON EACH LAYER AS YOU STACK THEM.
