1 C. RAISINS
1 C. SUGAR
2 TBSP. SHORTENING
2 TSP. BAKING SODA
2 1/2 C. FLOUR
1/2 TSP. SALT
1/2 C. MOLASSES
1/2 C. CHOPPED NUTS, OPTIONAL

Directions:
ADD BOILING WATER TO RAISINS, SUGAR, SHORTENING AND BAKING SODA IN LARGE BOWL. COVER AND LET STAND OVERNIGHT. NEXT DAY, ADD FLOUR, SALT MOLASSES AND NUTS. MIX UNTIL WELL- BLENDED. USE PASTRY BRUSH TO GREASE WELL SOME FRUIT AND VEGETABLE PANS. FILL HALF FULL WITH BATTER. BAKE AT 350º FOR 50 MINUTES. RECIPE MAY BE DOUBLED TO YIELD 6 - 7 LOAVES.

NOTE: DO NOT USE CANS THAT MAY RUST.
