~ 3 pt. fresh strawberries.
~ 1/2 c. white sugar.
~ 2 1/4 c. all- purpose flour.
~ 4 tsp. baking powder.
~ 2 tbsp. white sugar.
~ 1/4 tsp. salt.
~ 1/3 c. shortening.
~ 1 egg.
~ 2/3 c. milk.
~ 2 c. whipped cream.

Directions:
Directions:
Slice strawberries & toss them with 1/2 c. of white sugar.
Set aside.
Pre-heat oven to 425º. Grease and flour one 8 in. round cake pan. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, 2 tbsp. white sugar, and salt, with a pastry blender; " cut in " the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add the beaten egg and milk. Srir until just combined. Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake at 425º for 15 to 20 min.'s or until golden brown. Let cool partially in pan or wire rack. Slice partially cooled cake in half, making 2 layers. Place half of strawberries on one layer and top with other half.
Top with remaining strawberries and cover with whipped cream.

This recipe is from the " Strawberry Shortcake " website, complied by & for adults who grew up in the '80s watching her cartoons & loving her & her friend's dolls & other items. I have many wonderful childhood memories of Strawberry Shortcake and with these recipes, I hope to always remember them as fondly & lovingly as I do now !
