1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cup oatmeal

Filling

1/2 lb dates
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the first seven ingredients and press 1/2 the mixture into bottom of 9X13 cake pan. Boil the dates with a bit of water and then add the brown sugar and vanilla. Spread the date filling into base and sprinkle the rest of the mixture on top of date spread. Bake in 350º oven for about 1/2 hour
