3c flour
1-1/2 Tablespoons Crisco shortening
¾ tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Baking Powde
1 c raisins (brown or golden)
2 Tbsp sugar
2 c buttermilk
1Tbsp sugar.(set aside)

Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening to small bits. Add raisins, mix well. Add buttermilk and mix until smooth. Place in greased round 8-9” cake pan. Cut a cross in top of loaf and sprinkle reserved sugar into cross. Bake 1 hour at 350º

You can make your own buttermilk by adding
4 Tbsp white vinegar to a measuring cup and add milk to make 2 cups total liquid.
