1 lb. hamburger
1 C bread or cracker crumbs
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt, pepper, oregano, sweet basil, and garlic powder
Wet with water to hold together. Roll into balls and fry until brown
1 large can tomato sauce with 1/2 to 3/4 can water
2 large cans tomato puree with 1 can water
1 onion
2 bay leaves
1/2 to 1 tsp. garlic powder and oregano
2 T sugar
Pinch of ground red pepper (optional)

Brown onion in oil. Mix all together. Bring to a boil. Add meatballs. Simmer 2-3 hours or until thick.

Grandma Schwartz use to have all the families over for this dish. She use to start it in the morning and let it simmer all day.
