1 tsp. soda
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water

1 c. sugar
2 T. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 egg beatened
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Frosting:
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cream
1/3 c. butter
powdered sugar to thicken

Directions:
Directions:
Sprinkle soda on dates, pour boiling water over them and let cool.
Cream: sugar, butter add well beatened eggs, salt nuts, and date mixture, mix.
Add vanilla, flour and spices. Beat well.

Bake in 9x13 pan at 350º for 30 minutes or until done.

When cool frost with Carmel Icing:

Carmel Icing:
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. cream
1/4 c. butter
powdered sugar
Cook slowly until it forms a soft ball in water. Remove from heat, cool and beat. We usually add powdered sugar to get a firm concistency!
