1 cup sugar
¾ scant cup shortening
1 egg
¼ cup molasses
2 cups flour
½ tsp cloves
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
1 ½ tsp mace
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together sugar, egg, shortening and molasses. Add unsifted dry ingredients. Shape dough into balls and roll in sugar. Bake at 325 degrees for about 10 minutes.
