6 3/4 c. flour
2 pkgs. yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
1 c. milk
1 T. sugar
1 T. salt
1 c. cold water
1 T. shortening or oil

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Let stand for5 minutes. Scald milk and place in mixing bowl. Add sugar, salt and cold water to milk. Stir until salt and sugar are dissolved. Cool to lukewarm. Pour softened yeast into lukewarm milk mixture. Stir well. Add 3 1/2 cups of sifted flour gradually. Beat until a smooth batter is formed. Add shortening or oil and beat thoroughly. Add 3 cups of sifted flour and mix well. Allow dough to stand for 10 minutes. Sprinkle 1/4 cup flour on bread board. Knead the dough until smooth. Round the dough into a smooth ball and place in a slightly oiled mixing bowl. Turn dough over so the top of dough is lightly coated with oil. Cover bowl with cloth, set in warm place to rise until doubled in bulk. Punch dough down. Turn the dough over so the smooth side is up. Cover with cloth and allow to rise a second time until the dough doubles inn bulk. Then divide dough and make loaves. Place each loaf in a 9 x 5 x 3 bread pan. The seam of the loaf should be in the under side. Cover with cloth and set in a warm place (85º). Let loaves rise until double in bulk. Bake bread about 45 minutes at 350º.
