"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Apple Bundles, by Shannon Irelan, is from Generations of Good Stuff,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
2 medium Granny Smith apples 1 package (11 oz) refrigerated bread sticks 1 medium orange 1 tablespoon melted butter or margarine 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375° Peel, core and slice apples. Cut apples in half crosswise. Unroll dough; separate at perforations to form 12 strips. Place 3 - 4 apple slices at the end of each strip of dough and roll up. Arrange bundles in baking pan. Zest the orange to measure 1 teaspoon of zest. Set aside. Juice the orange to measure 1/3 cup of juice. Pour juice into bottom of baking pan, but not over bundles. Brush melted butter over bundles. Mix zest, sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over bundles. Bake 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
