3/4 c. butter, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. finely ground fresh black pepper
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
3/4 c. cocoa
semisweet chocolate morsels
granulated sugar

Preheat the oven to 350º. Cream the butter and sugar in processor. Add the egg and vanilla and incorporate well. Sift dry ingredients and add to processor; mix only until batter is uniform in color. Chill dough. To a generous teaspoon of chilled dough, add five chocolate morsels; roll the dough and morsels into a ball about the size of a quarter. Roll each ball in granulated sugar. Bake for 8 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE. They should be delicate and soft in the center. Cool on cookie sheet.
Makes 6 dozen.
