1 1/2 c soft shortening
2 c brown sugar (packed)
2 eggs
1/2 c molasses
4 1/2 c Gold medal flour
4 t soda
1/2 t salt
2 t cinnamon
2 t ginger

TOPPING
granulated sugar
1 t clove

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and molasses. Mix thoroughly. Blend all dry ingredients. Add all dry ingredients. Mix well. Chill dough.

Heat oven to 375. Roll dough in 1 1/4" balls (by spoonfuls) Dip tops in sugar. Place balls (sugar side up) 3" apart on greased cookie sheet.
Sprinkle each cookie with 2-3 drops of water.

Bake 10-12 min. or just until set but not hard.

Mom added some grated orange peel to this sometimes. My favorite cookie next to the Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies mom made.
