"The tradition of Italian cooking is that of the matriarch. This is the cooking of grandma. She didn't waste time thinking too much about the celery. She got the best celery she could and then she dealt with it."--Mario Batali

3/4 cup Crisco (butter flavored) 1 1/4 light brown sugar 2 Tbs. milk 1 Tbs. vanilla 1 egg 1 3/4 cups flour 1 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. soda 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
In a large bowl combine Crisco, brown sugar, milk and vanilla. Add egg and mix well. Add salt, soda and flour; mix well. Add chocolate chips. Add pecans, if desired. Drop by teaspoon full onto cookie sheet and bake at 375º for 8-10 minutes, depending on desired softness of cookies. Experiment with this one. Sometimes you need to add a little more flour so they are not "flat".
