12 pounds of blackberries
5 ounces of Tartaric Acid (from Drug Store)
Sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Wash berries and cover in water; add acid and let stand 48 hours, strain. Measure juice and add one cup of sugar to each cup of juice. Stir well and bottle. Stand bottles in water and bring to a boil. Let boil about 15 minutes. Cork. To serve dilute to taste and pour over crushed ice.

When I was at Furman, one of my friends returned from home with her mother's "Blackberry Acid" and the whole hall enjoyed the treat. Years later I heard that a friends sister had been expelled for doing the same thing. Boy, were we naive - and lucky!
