1 1/2 cups chopped dates
1 cup hot coffee
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Combine dates, coffee and soda in bowl. Cool.
Beat melted butter, egg, and sugar in second bowl. Stir in date mixture. In third bowl stir flour, baking powder, salt and nuts. Pour into wet ingredients. Stir to moisten. Pour into greased loaf pan and bake in 350 for 1 hour or until it tests done. (toothpick comes out dry)
