1 c brown sugar
1 lump butter size of walnut
Enough water to start it to cook

Cook until pretty thick.

Then add:
1 c milk
2 egg yolks
3 T flour mixed with milk
Flavoring

No further directions were included with this much used recipe, but an experienced baker would know to pour mixture in a baked crust. It would be good served with or without a meringue.
