"I have long believed that good food, good eating is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure."--Anthony Bourdain
This recipe for Wheat Germ Oatmeal Patties, by Isabel Newbold, is from Our Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
1 1/2 c. Rolled Oats 1 c. Wheat Germ 1 package Active Dry Yeast dissolved in 1/4 c. Water 1 1/2 tbsp. Soy Sauce 1 1/4 tsp. Salt 1/2 tsp. Sage 1/2 tsp. Garlic Salt 1 medium Onion, chopped fine 2 tbsp Oil 2 Eggs, beaten 1/2 c. Nuts (walnuts are good), chopped fine 1 (13 oz.) can Evaporated Milk
Combine first 7 ingredients. Saute onion in oil until golden; combine all ingredients. Let Stand for 15 minutes. Drop tablespoons into fry pan or griddle (seems rather liquid but will form up). Use medium heat, brown nicely on both sides. Serve with your favorite gravy or mushroom soup sauce (add some sour cream and soy sauce to mushroom soup gravy).
These freeze very well. Add gravy only when ready for oven or microwave.
