This recipe for Basic White Bread, by Cheryl Hancock, is from Our Family Cookbook,

2 packages of Yeast (or 3 heaping tsp.) 4 tbsp. Sugar 2 2/3 c. warm Water 1 1/2 tbsp. Oil 8 c. Flour 2 tsp. salt
Step 1: Dissolve 2 packages of yeast and 1 tbsp. sugar in 1 cup of warm water. Mix and let stand for 10 minutes.
Step 2: To 1 2/3 cup HOT water add the following: 3 tbsp. sugar and enough flour to make thick batter. Mix well and let stand till yeast is ready. Beat well and add the yeast mix. Let stand for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Add 1 1/2 tbsp oil, 2 tsp salt and enough flour to make soft dough.
Step 4: Knead on floured board 8-10 minutes until smooth. Shape into loaves or rolls and place in oiled pans.
Step 5: Place in cold oven. Turn to 225º for 15 minutes or until bread has risen enough. Then turn to 350º for about 35 minutes or until done. Remove from pans and brush with oil for soft crust.
