2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup hot water
3 cups flour (sift before measuring)
Nuts, coconut, raisins (if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, salt, vanilla, baking soda, baking powder. Mix well. Add hot water and flour alternately. When well blended add nuts, coconut or raisins. Bake at 325 for 25 minutes or until done. Can be iced.
