Combine in saucepan:
1/4 c sugar
1 egg
2 T cornstarch
1/4 tsp salt
Using portable mixer, beat in gradually:
2 c milk
Cook over low heat, beating until mixture boils.
Beat and boil one minute.
Add:
1 T butter
1 tsp vanilla
Beat until well blended.
Chill

When we had a milk cow, custards and puddings were prepared often in the Smith Kitchen to keep up with milk production. We didn't mind
