2 1/4 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 c coarsely chopped nuts
1/3 c shortening
2/3 c sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup mashed, ripe bananas
1/4 c buttermilk or water

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, measure, and sift again with the baking powder, soda, and salt. Add the nuts.

In another bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Blend in banana pulp. Add flour mixture and liquid alternately, beating until smooth. Pour into a well-greased and floured loaf pan. Bake on the center rack in a 350º oven about 1 hour. Remove from pan and cool on rack.
